Attachment Wounds: The Traumatic Silencing of Longing
The afternoon will carry the understanding of traumatic silence into the relational world of childhood attachment. Drawing on the work of Bowlby and James and Joyce Robertson, we will explore the three phases of attachment loss in prolonged separation: Protest, despair and detachment and examine how each represents a kind of traumatic silencing. We will then explore common therapeutic pitfalls in bringing each of these silenced, relational wounds into the therapeutic relationship for the sake of healing. Participants will work alone and in dyads to reflect on their own experience of longing in therapy, and on the experience of working with the longing of their patients.
Participation in this event requires attendance at the morning workshop and pre-payment is REQUIRED. Participation is limited to 30 attendees.
Registration is not confirmed until payment is received. We will keep a waiting list once the limit is reached. Please call the office at 508-598-5553 to be added to the waiting list.
