In this workshop an IFS approach to treating trauma will

be presented, with a particular focus on working with common high- risk symptoms often presented by trauma survivors.  How to approach challenging activities like substance abuse, eating disorders, sexual acting out and self- harming behaviors, which often serve important functions to protect and distract our clients, will be highlighted. The impact of this work on the therapist will also be discussed.  Lecture, discussion and live role-play will be included in the day’s presentation.

  1. Participants will have an understanding of the IFS approach to working with trauma.
  2. Participants will have an understanding of how to intervene with risk- taking behaviors using an IFS approach.
  3. Participants will have an increased knowledge of how extreme behavior impacts the therapeutic relationship.
